In zwei Kliniken
Abstract
This study investigates whether patients with Parkinson's disease suffer more from
sleep disorders, daytime sleepiness and sudden-onset sleep spells than other patient
groups. Furthermore, we examined determinants of these three phenomena. Therefore,
three patient groups were formed by patients suffering Parkinson's disease, chronic
pain syndrome and orthopaedic diseases. These patients, treated in two German clinics,
were asked to fill out questionnaires referring to the above-named disorders. Patients
with Parkinson's disease or chronic pain syndrome had significantly more sleep disorders
than orthopaedic patients. Daytime sleepiness and sleep attacks occurred in all of
the three study groups. Diagnosis overlapping determinants of sleep attacks are increased
daytime sleepiness and poor quality of night sleep. The influence of medication, however,
proved to be small.
