Zusammenfassung
Fragestellung: Die solare Ultraviolettstrahlung ist einer der wichtigsten Einflussfaktoren der Umwelt auf die menschliche Gesundheit. Diese Studie setzt sich zur Aufgabe, Informationen darüber bereitzustellen, wie lange es in Abhängigkeit von der Tages- und Jahreszeit dauert, bis eine minimale Erythemdosis akquiriert ist. Methode: Die ultraviolette Sonneanstrahlung wurde mit einem Spektralradiometer (Doppelmonochromator) in Westerland auf der Nordseeinsel Sylt auf der geografischen Position 54° 55′ N, 8° 18′ O gemessen. Aus den Messungen der erythemwirksamen Bestrahlungsstärke an Tagen mit klarem Himmel wurden die Expositionszeiten berechnet, die erforderlich sind, um eine minimale Erythemdosis (MED) zu empfangen. Die Expositionszeiten werden in Abhängigkeit von der Tageszeit in Diagrammform gezeigt. Es werden Diagramme für die Monate April bis September und für die Lichthauttypen I - IV angegeben. Ergebnisse: An klaren Tagen ist der Tagesgang der erythemwirksamen Strahlung eine Funktion der Sonnenhöhe. Die Bestrahlungsstärke steigt am Vormittag steil an, erreicht zum lokalen Mittag ein Maximum und fällt in gleicher Weise am Nachmittag ab. Die glockenförmige Kurve ist nahezu perfekt, um den lokalen Mittag symmetrisch. Die Expositionszeiten, die nötig sind, um eine einzige minimale Erythemdosis (MED) zu empfangen, folgen einem anderen Muster und sind keinesfalls symmetrisch um den Mittag verteilt. Morgens werden die Expositionszeiten schnell kürzer; aber schon ungefähr 2œ Stunden vor dem Sonnenhöchststand erreichen sie ein relativ konstantes Niveau, das sich bis etwa 1œ Stunden nach dem lokalen Mittag fortsetzt. Während dieser Zeit dauert es weniger als 30 min, um eine MED zu empfangen. Die kürzeste Expositionszeit von etwa 23 min für Hauttyp II wird etwa eine halbe Stunde vor dem Mittag erreicht. Später am Nachmittag werden die Expositionszeiten schnell länger. Drei oder spätestens 3œ Stunden nach dem Sonnenhöchststand wird keine MED mehr empfangen, selbst wenn die Exposition bis zum Sonnenuntergang dauert. Cum grano salis sind diese Ergebnisse von Mitte Mai bis Mitte August zutreffend. Schlussfolgerungen: Die hier vorgestellten Diagramme zeigen das Risiko, einen Sonnenbrand zu erleiden in Abhängigkeit von der Tages- und Jahreszeit. Darüber hinaus können die Diagramme als Richtlinie bei der Dosierung der therapeutischen Sonnenexposition zur Behandlung chronischer Hauterkrankungen wie der Psoriasis und der atopischen Dermatitis dienen. Streng genommen sind die Expositionszeiten nur für den Ort und die Zeit gültig zu denen die Messungen erfolgten. Es scheint jedoch vernünftig, die Ergebnisse auf Orte ähnlicher geografischer Breite zu verallgemeinern. Dies dürfte für die Seebäder an den deutschen Küsten zutreffen.
Abstract
Purpose: Solar ultraviolet radiation is one of the most relevant environmental factors influencing human health. This study aims at presenting substantial information on how long it takes to acquire a minimal erythemal dose depending on the time of day and on the season. Methods: Solar ultraviolet radiation was measured using a double monochromator spectroradiometer. Measurements were done in Westerland on the North Sea island of Sylt on the geographical position 54° 55′ N, 8° 18′ E. Based on measurements done throughout days with clear sky, exposure times were calculated that are necessary to acquire a minimal erythemal dose (MED). The results are presented in diagrams showing the exposure times as functions of the time of day. Diagrams are given from April to September and for the skin phototypes I to IV, respectively. Results: On clear days, the diurnal course of the erythemally effective irradiance is a function of the solar elevation. The irradiance steeply increases in the morning, reaches a peak at local noon and decreases in the same way in the afternoon. The bell-shaped curve is nearly perfect symmetrically centered at local noon. The exposure times required to acquire a single minimal erythemal dose (MED), however, follow a different pattern, which is by no means symmetrically distributed around noon. In the morning, the exposure times become rapidly shorter but about 2.5 hours before noon they already reach a relatively constant level which continues till about 1.5 hours after local noon. During this period it takes less than 30 min to acquire a MED. The time is shortest (23 min for skin phototype II) when exposure begins about half an hour before noon. Later in the afternoon, exposure times become rapidly longer. Three or at the latest 3.5 hours after noon no MED will be acquired even if the exposure lasts until sunset. With a pinch of salt these results are valid from the mid-May to mid-August. Conclusions: The diagrams presented here show the risk of getting sun burnt depending on the time of day and on the season. Moreover, the diagrams can be used as guidelines to measure out therapeutic sun-exposure to treat chronic skin diseases like psoriasis vulgaris or atopic dermatitis. In a strict sense the exposure times are valid only for the place and time when the measurements were done. However, it does seem reasonable to generalize the results to places located on similar latitude. This would apply to the seaside resorts on the German coasts.
