Methods for rapid quantitative analysis of 6-hydroxykynurenic acid (6-HKA) by high-performance
liquid chromatography (HPLC) and high-performance thin layer chromatography (HPTLC)
have been developed. Sample preparation involves solid phase extraction with an ion
exchange resin. These methods are used for the determination of the 6-HKA content
in various Ginkgo biloba leaf samples, in herbal tea preparations and in a representative number of solid,
liquid and homeopathic Ginkgo preparations available in Germany. A simple and effective isolation method for 6-HKA
is described.
