Abstract

A new steroidal saponin has been isolated from the rhizomes of Costus spicatus and its structure was elucidated as (3β,22α,25R)-26-β-D-glucopyranosyloxy)-2-methoxyfurost-5-en-3-yl O-D-apio-β-D-furanosyl-(1→4)-O-[α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→2)]-β-D-glucopyranoside by means of IR, MS, NMR and chemical evidence.
