Abstract

A new indole alkaloid, 1-methoxycarbonyl-4,8-dimethoxy-β-carboline (1a) was isolated from the leaves of Ailanthus altissima and its structure elucidated by spectroscopic methods; 1-methoxycarbonyl-β-carboline (1b) was also identified.
