Abstract

The chloroform extract as well as two flavanones isolated from the bark of the Cameroonian medicinal plant Erythrina sigmoidea have been studied for their antimicrobial activity. All Gram positive bacteria tested were sensitive to the action of the flavanones whereas the Gram negative bacteria and fungi tested were resistant. Bioautographic tests indicated that the antimicrobial activity of the chloroform extract was linked with the two flavanones.
