Summary

Recently increasing attention has been paid to oto-rhino-laryngological disturbances in children. Societies and scientific meetings for “Pediatric Oto-Rhino-Laryngology” have been organised. Emphasis was given to the particular problems of diagnosis and treatment of head and neck diseases during childhood, best managed by close cooperation between different disciplines. Some established models are discussed, providing an appropriate ENT service for our young patients in an optimal pediatric context. With regard to the possibilities and responsibilities of modern Oto-Rhino-Laryngology in the treatment of children, institutional subspecialisation does not appear recommendable.
