Summary
Posthypoglycemic glucose intolerance is related to counter-regulatory hormones. We have tested the role of the β2-sympathomimetic activity of the catecholamines in healthy volunteers. β2-stimulation with fenoterol for 25 minutes caused glucose intolerance and insulin resistance for 4 hours. This suggests that the β2-sympathomimetic activity induces glucose intolerance after an episode of hypoglycemia.
