Abstract
To evaluate the feedback control of thyroid hormones on TSH release, 18 normal subjects and 16 depressed patients received two TRH injections: on days one and nine. Forty eight hours before the second TRH injection subjects and patients received either T3, 100 µg orally, or matched placebo. T3 administration resulted in a highly significant and similar reduction of Δmax TSH and FT4-index levels in both subjects and patients whereas serum T3 levels were unchanged. These data suggest that the pituitary response to the negative feedback signal of T3 is intact in depressed patients.
Zusammenfassung
Zur Überprüfung der Feedback-Steuerung der Schilddrüsenhormone bei TSH-Ausschüttung erhielten 18 gesunde Probanden und 16 depressive Patienten Thyreotropin-Releasing-hormon (TRH) durch je zwei TRH-Injektionen verabreicht, und zwar am ersten und neunten Tag. 48 Stunden vor der 2. TRH-Injektion erhielten Probanden und Patienten entweder 100 µg T3 oral oder entsprechende Plazebotabletten. Die T3-Verabreichung verursachte eine hochsignifikante und ähnliche Reduktion der Δmax. TSH- und FT4-Indexspiegel bei Patienten und Probanden, während die T3-Serumkonzentrationen unverändert blieben. Diese Ergebnisse deuten darauf hin, daß die hypophyseäre Reaktion auf das negative Feedbacksignal des T3 bei depressiven Patienten intakt ist.
