Summary
Motor evoked potentials elicited by transcranial electric stimulation were studied in a total of 201 patients in the acute phase and in 34 patients out of these 201 during follow-up after traumatic (n = 132) and non-traumatic (n = 69) coma, respectively. The results show that in the acute phase of the coma only the bilateral loss af potential is of prognostic value: all patients died who had this constellation. Practically useful in follow-up studies is only the deterioration of potential findings, allowing to conclude on the presence of a clinico-neurological deterioration.
Zusammenfassung
Motorisch evozierte Potentiale (MEP), ausgelöst durch transkranielle elektrische Reizung, wurden bei insgesamt 201 Patienten in der Akutphase und bei 34 davon im Verlauf nach einem traumatischen (n = 132) bzw. nichttraumatischen (n = 69) Koma untersucht. Unsere Ergebnisse zeigen, dass in der Akutphase des Komas nur der beidseitige Potentialverlust prognostisch verwertbar ist: alle Patienten dieser Konstellation sind verstorben. Von praktischem Nutzen im Rahmen von Verlaufsuntersuchungen ist nur die Verschlechterung der Potentialbefunde, die auf eine klinischneurologische Verschlechterung schließen läßt.
