A flexible bioprosthetic pericardial heart valve has been produced as a consequence
of adverse long-term clinical information about tissue heart valves on rigid frames.
The concept of flexibility has been supported by a comparison between homograft valves
on rigid and flexible supports used in the mitral position. Principles and methods
of construction of this flexible valve are described and it is intended that this
inexpensive plastic frame will provide support for a bioprosthesis which will be a
useful addition to choices for cardiac valve replacements.
