Summary
This report describes an interesting coincidence of myxomatous mitral valve leaflets in a patient with traumatized mitral valve.
A 27-year-old man with severe mitral regurgitation resulting from ruptured chordae tendineae due to an automobile accident successfully underwent mitral valve replacement with a Björk-Shiley prosthesis on the fourth day after the accident.
Histological examination of the excised valve demonstrated myxomatous change of the leaflet. In this case, myxomatous mitral valve, as the underlying disease, appeared to be partly responsible for the torn chordae, as well as the blunt chest trauma.
