Summary
In a 53-year-old female with a St. Jude Medical prosthesis in the aortic position, detachment of the prosthesis could be non-invasively diagnosed by means of echocardiography and confirmed during reoperation. The prosthesis was dissected from the aortic wall to 1/5 of its circumference and tilted within the left ventricle. Thus, by means of simultaneously registered echocardiogram and phonocardiogram, dysfunctions of St. Jude Medical prostheses can be detected noninvasively.
