Abstract

We report a 6 year old girl who developed acute chorea following cardiac surgery using hypothermia and total cardiopulmonary bypass. Rheumatic disease, cerebral embolism or hemorrhage were excluded. Cerebral hypoperfusion during surgery is the most probable cause for this neurologic event. Treatment with Tiaprid (Tiapridex®) resulted in a rapid resolution of symptoms.

Zusammenfassung

Es wird über ein 6 Jahre altes Mädchen berichtet, bei dem nach einer Herzoperation in Hypothermie und totalem Bypass eine akute Chorea auftrat. Eine rheumatische Genese, ein embolisches Ereignis oder eine intrakranielle Blutung konnten ausgeschlossen werden. Eine cerebrale Minderperfusion während der Operation ist wahrscheinlich die Ursache der neurologischen Störung. Die Symptome klangen unter einer Therapie mit Tiaprid (Tiapridex®) rasch ab.
