Introduction

Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is pivotal in the diagnosis and management of pancreaticobiliary disorders. At the same time it is one of the most sophisticated and challenging techniques in our endoscopic armamentarium. This article reviews some of the highlights of the ERCP-related research presented at this year’s Digestive Disease Week. Clinical investigation was aimed at enhancing efficacy, improving safety, and expanding the applications of ERCP. The most compelling themes addressed new techniques and new technologies applied to new and old problems. The overall impression is that while the quantity of ERCP-related research might be diminishing over the years, the quality is growing.
