Abstract

An alkaloid, 8-methoxy dictamnine (1) and a fagaramide like compound (2) were isolated from the leaves of Zanthoxylum rubescens for the first time. These compounds were absent in the root and stem barks from which nitidine chloride (0.013% ^w/_w)(3) and 9-methoxylchelerythrine (0.18% ^w/_w)(4) (possibly an artefact from chelerythrine) were isolated.
