Abstract
The non-sugar fraction of crude black sugar prepared from sugar-cane was found to inhibit the elevation of serum triglyceride, lipid peroxides, and insulin of rats fed on a high sugar diet for 61 days. The non-sugar fraction was also found, by oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT), to reduce the plasma insulin in rats. Furthermore, it was found that the non-sugar fraction inhibited the absorption of glucose and fructose from the small intestine of rats.
