Abstract
Five furocoumarins were isolated by HPLC from the petroleum ether extract of shoots of Pituranthos triradiatus (HOCHST. ex BOISS.) ASCHERS. et SCHWEIF. (Umbelliferae). This species is commonly used by Beduins still practicing folk medicine in the Negev and Sinai Deserts.
The furocoumarins were found to be: isoimperatorin, 5-(3-methyl-2-butenyloxy)-psoralen; cnidilin, 8-methoxy-5-(3-methyl-2-butenyloxy)-psoralen; imperatorin, 8-(3-methyl-2-butenyloxy)-psoralen; bergapten, 5-methoxypsoralen; and isopimpinellin, 5,8-dimethoxypsoralen. Some chemical and physical characteristics of these compounds, including RT values, were determined.
