Abstract
From the water extract of the fruits of Sabal serrulata ROEM. et SCHULT. (Serenoa repens [BART.] SMALL.) an acidic polysaccharide with a high antiphlogistic activity has been isolated by precipitation methods, ultrafiltration and chromatographic fractionation on dextran-, agarose-and polyacrylamide gel. The polysaccharide has an average m. w. of 100000 and contains as main sugar components galactose (38.4%), arabinose (18.7%) and uronic acid (14%).
