The relation between placental leucine aminopeptidase (PLAP) activity in maternal sera and umbilical artery waveforms (systolic/diastoic ratio, S/D) obtained by pulsed Doppler has been examined by cross-sectional study in 26 normal pregnancies during weeks 26 - 38. A negative correlation was seen to exist suggesting that P-LAP may have a role in the regulation of uteroplacental blood flow.
