Abstract

A new sesquiterpene polyol ester characterized as 1α,6β,8β-triacetoxy-9β-benzoyloxydihydro-β-agarofuran (1), along with the three known compounds: 1α,6β,8α-triacetoxy-9α-benzoyloxydihydro-β-agarofuran (2), angulatueoid C (3), and 1α,6β,8β,14-tetraacetoxy-9α-benzoyloxydihydro-β-agarofuran (4), was isolated from the CCl4-soluble fraction of Celastrus paniculatus methanolic seed extract. All four compounds produce at a concentration of 1 μg/mL a relaxant effect on the isolated rat ileum of 31.4 ± 7.5, 24.3 ± 9.6, 24.4 ± 4.9, and 16.2 ± 7.2 %, respectively.
