Hintergrund Die Polatest-Anhänger versuchen die Prismenkorrektur am Polatest zu forcieren sowohl bei Heterophorien, bei Asthenopien, bei Legasthenie als auch bei Beschwerden aller Art. Dabei soll es sensorische Anomalien geben, die nur am Polatest erfaßt werden können und die mit einer sonst nicht üblichen Terminologie benannt werden. Die Polatest-Doktrin führt z.B. bei Mikrostrabismen, bei subnormalem Binokularsehen und bei obligater Fixationsdisparität zu exzessiven Prismenverordungen, die den Schielwinkel vergrößern und dadurch zu unnötigen Schieloperationen verleiten.
Methode und Schlußfolgerung Der Grund liegt in einer fehlerhaften Interpretation am Stereo-Dreiecktest, wo man die monokulare Supression des binokular sichtbaren Punktes nicht erkennen kann. Da auch gewisse Optiker von sich aus Prismen verordnen, - nicht selten bei Patienten, die in augenärztlicher Behandlung standen und stehen, ist eine standespolitische Auseinandersetzung zwischen diesen Optikern und Augenärzten vorprogrammiert.

They claim that some sensorial anomalies exist which can be diagnosed only by the Polatest and for which special terminology is used. The Polatest-Doctrine in microtropias, subnormal binocular vision and obligate fixation disparity leads to excessive amount of prisms and unnecessary eye muscle surgery.
Method and conclusion The reason for this is the erroneous interpretation of the Stereo-test with the two triangles, where it is not possible to distinguish between binocular vision or monocular supression of the binocular visible dot. As some opticians prescribe prisms on their own, sometimes for patients who are treated by ophthalmologists, this method leads to arguments between ophthalmologists and those opticians.
