Einleitung

So heterogen wie das Alter selbst ist - der eine steigt mit 90 auf Berge, der andere leidet mit 70 bereits an Demenz -, so verschieden sind auch die Anforderungen, die das Alter an die Zahnmedizin stellt. Genau diesen Bogen spannt die Alterszahnmedizin: von fit bis pflegebedürftig, von Prophylaxe bis Palliativ-Zahnmedizin. War früher im Alter herausnehmbarer Zahnersatz gefragt, so hat die Generation 60+ heute immer häufiger eigene Zähne und „feste“ Versorgungen. Prophylaxe und Zahnerhaltung bekommen damit einen Stellenwert im Alter, den sich noch vor gar nicht langer Zeit niemand hätte vorstellen können.
