Abstract
Silicone oil had been used in the 'sixties and 'seventies of the past century as an
artificial lubricant. Rarely the consequences of such a "therapy" can be found even
today. In the case report the histopathology of the synovial membrane of a female
patient 3 and 23 years after intraarticular injection of silicone oil is described.
Silicone globules in the villous hyperplastic synovial membrane persisted for more
than 20 years. It is concluded that the intraarticular injection of non-biodegradable
substances should not be used as "therapeutic" agents.
Zusammenfassung
Silikonöl wurde in den sechziger und siebziger Jahren des vergangenen Jahrhunderts
als künstliches Lubrikans angewandt; selten werden heute noch Folgen dieser ,,Therapie"
gesehen. In der Kasuistik wird die Histopathologie der Synovialmembran einer Patientin
drei und 23 Jahre nach der intraartikulären Injektion der Silikonflüssigkeit dargestellt.
Silikon-,,Kugeln" persistierten im villösen hyperplastischen synovialen Gewebe über
mehr als 20 Jahre. Es ist daraus zu schließen, dass die intraartikuläre Injektion
nicht biodegradabler Substanzen kein ,,Therapeutikum" von Gelenkkrankheiten darstellt
