Nine Years of Free Autogenous Muscle Transplantation for Anal Incontinence in Children

Abstract

Free autogenous muscle transplantation (FAMT) was used in 21 children with anal incontinence following operations for anorectal agenesis (19) and megacolon (2). Their age at the FAMT-operation was generally 10-14 years. In 10 of these children the results of FAMT were excellent and gave almost normal continence. 9 cases were post-operatively classified as "socially satisfactory" and in the remaining 2 cases the results were poor with no or almost no improvement of the continence.

Zusammenfassung

Freies autogenes Muskeltransplantat (FAMT) wurde bei 21 Kindern mit analer Inkontinenz benutzt. 19 dieser Kinder wurden früher wegen anorektaler Agenesie und 2 Kinder wegen Megakolon operiert. Das Alter dieser Kinder bei der FAMT-Operation war im allgemeinen 10-14 Jahre. 10 dieser Kinder haben ein sehr gutes Resultat gehabt und erhielten fast normale Kontinenz. 9 Kinder wurden postoperativ als ,,sozial befriedigend", die übrigen 2 als schlecht mit keiner oder fast keiner Verbesserung klassifiziert.
