Erfahrungen mit Methocel bei intraokularen Eingriffen

Zusammenfassung

Die Verwendung von 1-3%igen Methylcelluloselösungen als viskoelastisches Hilfsmittel in der Vorderabschnittschirurgie stellt eine preisgünstige und sichere Alternative dar. Die verwendete Methylcellulose muß von höchstem Reinheitsgrad sein und darf keinerlei Konservantien-Zusätze wie Benzalkonium, Thiomersal, etc. enthalten. Die Herstellungskosten pro Ampulle betragen lediglich einige Franken, wodurch z.B. auch eine Anwendung an Drittweltspitälern, wo oft extreme Sparanstrengungen gemacht werden müssen, möglich wäre. Ein verbessertes Instrumentarium für die Applikation der Methylcellulose wird vorgestellt.

Summary

The use of 1-3% solutions of methylcellulose as a viscoelastic agent for surgery of the anterior segment represents a cheap and safe alternative. The methylcellulose used for these preparations has to be highly purified and free of antiseptic compounds such as benzalkonium, thiomersal, or similar agents. In view of its low cost it could even be used in Third-World hospitals, where money is often scarce. An improved instrument set for the application of methylcellulose is described.
