Summary
Nine cases of traumatic odontoid fractures had, as a primary treatment, a posterior surgical fixation (C 1 + C 2 + C 3) by means of acrylate, without waiting for the unpredictable results of external systems of immobilisation.
No immediate or late (follow-up: six months to seven yrs) neurological complications occurred.
Solid union took place in all the cases but one. Two cases of wound infection were recorded. All the patients were actively mobilised on the second postoperative day without external immobilisation.
Zusammenfassung
In neun Fällen von traumatischen Frakturen des Dens axis wurde zunächst eine posteriore chirurgische Fixierung (C1 + C2 + C3) mittels Acrylat vorgenommen, ohne die nicht vorhersehbaren Ergebnisse externer Immobilisierungssysteme abzuwarten. Es ergaben sich keinerlei neurologische Ausfälle oder Komplikationen (6 Monate bis 7 Jahre Überwachung). In allen Fällen bis auf einen war der Zusammenschluß von dauerhafter Art. Es gab zwei Fälle von Wundinfektionen. Alle Patienten waren bereits am 2. Tag post operationem aktiv mobil ohne externe Immobilisierung.
