Summary

A case of discrete granuloma of the spinal cord in a Nigerian boy is presented, the second example reported from Nigeria. It was caused by Schistosoma haematobium. The lesion was histologically verified. Decompressive laminectomy, partial removal of the granuloma followed by anti-schistosomal drugs produced little benefit.

Zusammenfassung

Es wird ein Granulom des Rückenmarks bei einem nigerianischen Knaben beschrieben, der zweite Fall, über den aus Nigeria berichtet wird. Es wurde durch Schistosoma haematobium verursacht und histologisch bestätigt. Dekompression durch Laminektomie, Teilresektion und Schistosoma-spezifische Chemotherapie brachten wenig Besserung der neurologischen Ausfälle.
