The Inhibitory Effect of Green Tea on Vesical Oncogenesis
Publication History
Publication Date:
19 March 2008 (online)

Summary:
We investigated the inhibitory effect of green tea (sen cha) on the oncogenesis of vesical tumors induced in the rat by N-butyl-N-(4-hydroxybutyl)nitrosamine (BBN). We divided Wistar rats into 6 groups and BBN was added to their drinking water in a concentration of 0.05% for 5 weeks. After that, the drinking water was replaced by ordinary tap water for the control group (group 1), sen cha for group 2, matcha for group 3, hoji cha for group 4, oolong tea for group 5, and black tea for group 6. Regarding the number and size of the tumors per rat, there were significant differences between the groups such as sen cha and hoji cha, and the control group. However, there were no significant differences between the groups such as matcha, oolong tea, black tea, and the control group. There were also significant differences regarding the tumor size per rat between the groups such as sen cha and hoji cha, and the groups such as oolong tea and black tea. The green teas (sen cha and hoji cha) had inhibitory effects the oncogenesis of vesical tumors induced in rats by BBN.
