Summary
The influence of ergotherapy on the treatment of hands and wrists of 56 patients with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis seen in a therapy camp in Warmbad Villach, was determined over seven years. Significant declines in hand function, reflected by pathological total and subtotal scores, were seen in patients with a duration of disease longer than 5 years. Patients with a duration of disease less than 5 years showed relatively normal hand function. Ergotherapy (finger gymnastics, treatment with splints) caused a stabilization of hand function; however, the course of the primary disease remained unchanged.
Zusammenfassung
Der Einfluß von Ergotherapie in der Behandlung von Händen bei 56 Kindern mit juveniler rheumatoider Arthritis, die ein Ferienlager in Warmbad Villach besuchten, wurden über 7 Jahre beurteilt. Starke Einschränkungen der Handfunktion, widergespiegelt durch pathologische Gesamtscores sowie Subscores, traten bei Patienten mit juveniler rheumatoider Arthritis hauptsächlich in der Patientengruppe mit einer Krankheitsdauer von mehr als 5 Jahren auf. Patienten mit einer Krankheitsdauer von weniger als 5 Jahren zeigten eine relativ normale Handfunktion. Durch Ergotherapie (Fingergymnastik, Schienenbehandlung) konnte eine wesentliche Stabilisierung der Handfunktion erreicht werden, das Fortschreiten der primären Erkrankung und der gelenksdestruierenden Prozesse blieb jedoch unbeeinflußt.
