Abstract
The total alkaloids of Strychnos potatorum seeds produce convulsions in different species of animals when administered parenterally. The alkaloids decrease barbiturate sleeping time in mice. Prior administration of troxidone prevents the convulsions produced by the alkaloids in 62°/o of rats. Prior administration of chlorpromazine prevents the full severity of convulsions. The alkaloids act synergistically when administered along with subconvulsive dose of strychnine. The alkaloids increase amphetamine toxicity in aggregated mice. LD50 in mice is 80 mg/kg.
