Abstract
Fifteen of nineteen Euphorbia species growing in the Azarbaijan province of Iran were screened for their skin irritant properties. All except E. herbecarpa Boiss, E. orientalis L. and E. peploid Gouan, were found to possess the diterpene ingenol, the fatty acid esters of which are known to be skin irritants. No phorbol esters or other irritants could be detected.
