Abstract

152 samples (91 species) of marine algae of French Atlantic coast have been investigated for their antimicrobial (antibacterial and antifungal) activity. For each sample, three extracts, prepared with Et₂0, then EtOH 99 %, then H₂0, were tested. The largest proportion of active species occurs in Cystoseiraceae, Bonnemaisoniaceae and Rhodomelaceae.
