Der vorliegende Artikel gibt einen Überblick über den Forschungsstand zu sexuellem Erleben und Verhalten bei Menschen mit schizophrenen Störungen. Dabei werden geschlechtsspezifische Aspekte der Krankheitsentwicklung, die Bedeutung von Sexualität im Kontext einer schizophrenen Erkrankung und Auswirkungen veränderten sexuellen Erlebens und Verhaltens auf die psychiatrische Behandlung, die sexuelle Lebensqualität und die Therapiecompliance dargestellt. Die Autoren diskutieren ausführlich die Nebenwirkungen der antipsychotischen Medikation. Die Arbeit soll zu einer differenzierteren Wahrnehmung und selbstverständlicheren Integration sexueller Themen in die Behandlung von Patienten mit Schizophrenie beitragen.
