Abstract

Imaging of the Pediatric Musculoskeletal System, Pt. II

Musculoskeletal neoplasms are rare entities in the pediatric population. Imaging, however, is essential in assisting with the pathologic diagnosis, in therapeutic planning, in monitoring the response to therapy, and in assessing complications of therapy. Additionally, imaging is used in the long-term follow-up of the cancer patient following therapy as surveillance for recurrence. Special considerations in imaging the pediatric patient include issues of child development and behavior which may require modification of routine adult protocols as well as different disease entities that are seen routinely in the adult population.
