ABSTRACT
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a common noninvasive and cost-effective diagnostic tool in the evaluation of internal derangements of the knee. Knee ligament tears are common sports-related knee injuries and require accurate clinical assessment and imaging for optimal management. Accurate interpretation of MRI studies requires that the musculoskeletal imager understand the normal anatomy and the pertinent clinical aspects of knee injuries. The imager must also be well aware of the clinical significance of the results of these examinations to allow effective communication with the sports medicine clinician. With the increase in popularity of anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, knowledge of the various surgical techniques and their MRI appearance, was well as the appearance of possible complications, has become essential.
