ABSTRACT
This article reviews techniques of kinematic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and current applications in evaluation of the musculoskeletal system. Kinematic MRI is most frequently used in the knee where it allows assessment of abnormalities of patel-lar alignment and patellar tracking. In the wrist, abnormal carpal motion and interosseous ligament tears may be detected with this technique. Other potential applications include assessment of peroneal tendon subluxation in the ankle, evaluation of the labral-ligamentous complex in the shoulder and detection of cervical spinal stenosis or instability.
