The treatment of open wounds is a daily challenge in veterinary medicine. During the
past years, a special treatment option, the Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT),
has been developed. Usage of this therapy significantly increases the healing rate
of open wounds as well as free skin grafts in small animals. This review describes
the mechanisms of action, indications as well as the known complications associated
with this therapy.
