A team of eight neuroanesthesiologists, headed by Dr Hemanshu Prabhakar (All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi), conducted the Neuromonitoring Workshop, under the aegis of Indian Society of Neuroanesthesiology and Critical Care (ISNACC) during the 24th National conference of the Research Society of Anaesthesiology Clinical Pharmacology, RSACPCON 2014, held at the Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences, Dehradun, on the 14th November, 2014. The registration to the workshop was restricted to a total of 30 participants. The workshop was attended by the local neurologists and neurosurgeons, besides neuroanesthesiologists with keen interest in the newer neuromonitoring techniques. The workshop began with an introduction of the team by Dr Hemanshu Prabhakar (AIIMS, New Delhi). A pretest was conducted for the participants to arouse interest into the topic, by Dr Prashant Kumar, (Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS), Rohtak. The workshop was conducted in two sessions. The first session consisted of didactic lectures, followed by second session which consisted of hands-on practice for the participants. There were seven presentations, one each on Intracranial Pressure monitoring (Dr Vasudha Singhal, Medanta-the Medicity, Gurgaon); Transcranial Doppler (Dr Manish Marda, Fortis Hospital, Noida); Electroencephalography (EEG)-based monitors (Dr Gyaninder Pal Singh, AIIMS, New Delhi); Evoked Potential monitoring (Dr Zulfiqar Ali, Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Srinagar); Cerebral Oximetry (Dr Virendra Jain, Fortis Memorial Research Institute (FMRI), Gurgaon); Cerebral Microdialysis (Dr Girija Rath, AIIMS, New Delhi); and Optic Nerve Sheath Diameter monitoring (Dr Renu Bala, PGIMS, Rohtak). The presentations were followed by a post test on the various topics covered. Workstations were arranged on each neuromonitoring modality in the post-lunch session, and the participants took keen interest in the same. The participants were given hands on training in transcranial Doppler (TCD) and optic nerve sheath diameter measurements. Live monitors were arranged for cerebral oximetry and bispectral index (BIS). Intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring catheters and cerebral microdialysis catheters were put on display, and the concept reinforced through recorded videos on insertion and monitoring techniques. The workshop concluded by a vote of thanks and felicitation of the faculty by the organisers.
