Weltweit sterben jährlich 2,6 Millionen Kinder vor der Geburt. Zwar betrifft das in einem hochentwickelten Land wie Deutschland nur 2,4 pro 1000 Geburten [1], doch sinkt die Totgeburtenrate nur langsam. Totgeburten sind nicht nur niederschmetternd für Familien und Geburtshelfer gleichermaßen, sondern auch ein Verlust an Humankapital. Dieser Artikel zeigt, welche Maßnahmen Totgeburten verhindern und wie die Betreuung verbessert werden kann.
