Forschung unter besonderen geografischen Bedingungen

Die Südpazifikregion ist nicht nur touristisch und kulturell eindrucksvoll, sondern stellt durch ihre Vielzahl an verstreut liegenden Inselstaaten auch spezielle Ansprüche an die Infrastrukturen und medizinischen Versorgungssysteme der jeweiligen Nationen. Im Rahmen meines Medizinstudiums an der RWTH Aachen hatte ich 2016 die Möglichkeit, auf den Cookinseln sowie in Vanuatu zu famulieren und die dortigen Gesundheitssysteme näher kennenzulernen. Während meines Aufenthalts konnte auch eine enge Zusammenarbeit mit den jeweiligen Gesundheitsbehörden etabliert werden. Daraus entstand das insgesamt fünfte durch den Verein Aachen Dental and Medical Expeditions (ADEMED) e.V. [1] unterstützte Forschungsprojekt. In diesem Rahmen forsche und promoviere ich über die Seroprävalenz von Antikörpern gegen potenziell hämorrhagische virale Fieber in repräsentativen Populationen der Südpazifikregion.
