Introduction

We report on a 45-year-old woman who developed an endophthalmitis 7 days after an osteo-odonto keratoprosthesis (OOKP) procedure in her right eye.

OOKP is a procedure in end-stage cicatricial ocular surface diseases with corneal blindness not amenable to penetrating keratoplasty [1], [2]. It replaces the cornea with a construct consisting of an optical cylinder embedded in a carrier fashioned from an autologous canine tooth [1]. The most common indications for OOKP are severe cases of Stevens-Johnson syndrome, and burns (thermal and chemical) that were unamenable to other forms of surgery or had had previous surgical failure [3].
