Zusammenfassung
Leonurus cardiaca L. ist eine seit Langem genutzte europäische traditionelle Heilpflanze, die v. a. Terpene, Flavonoide, Stachydrin und das Pseudoalkaloid Leonurin enthält. Zubereitungen aus der Arzneidroge besitzen sedative, blutdrucksenkende, antioxidative bzw. entzündungshemmende Wirkungen. Ein therapeutischer Einsatz im Rahmen einer traditionellen Anwendung erfolgt bei nervösen Herzbeschwerden, Schilddrüsenüberfunktion und klimakterischen Beschwerden. Zurzeit gibt es nur unzureichende klinische Studien, und die den Wirkungen zugrundeliegenden Mechanismen sind noch nicht vollständig geklärt.

Leonurus cardiaca L., Motherwort
Leonurus cardiaca L. (Lamiaceae) is a perennial plant with a long history in European traditional medicine. The drug contains terpenes, flavonoids, stachydrine and the pseudoalkaloid leonurine. Preparations of the herbal drug induce sedative, hypotensive, antioxidative and anti-inflammatory effects. Traditionally, motherwort is used for treating nervous heart complaints, hyperthyroidism and menopausal conditions. Currently only insufficient clinical studies are available and the mechanisms for biological activities have not yet been fully clarified.
