Pierre Lafeuille et al. Endoscopic submucosal dissection combined with clip for closure of gastrointestinal fistulas including those refractory to previous therapy
In this cohort study, 23 patients with chronic gastrointestinal fistula underwent a novel endoscopic closure technique combining endoscopic submucosal dissection of the mucosa surrounding the fistula orifice, followed by clip closure. The authors achieved 83 % immediate closure and 61 % long-term closure, which confirmed feasibility of the technique. Further follow-up will be necessary, as long-term closure remains a challenge.
