Sabela Carballal et al. Prevalence of adenomatous polyposis in a fecal immunochemical test-based colorectal cancer screening program and risk of advanced neoplasia during follow-up
At 2.2 %, there was a low prevalence of individuals with ≥ 10 adenomas in 9582 fecal immunochemical test (FIT)-positive participants in a colorectal cancer (CRC) screening program. After exclusion of those with hereditary syndromes, serrated polyposis syndrome, or missing surveillance data, 161 individuals were analyzed. In this group, 5 % had CRC and 81 % advanced neoplasia at the index colonoscopy. At follow-up, the 3-year cumulative incidences of CRC and advanced neoplasia were 1 % and 16 %, respectively.
