Das Handgelenk ist das komplexeste Gelenk des menschlichen Körpers, mit verschiedenen kleineren Einzelgelenken, an denen die jeweiligen Knochen, unzählige Bänder und Kapseln beteiligt sind. Dem Bandapparat zwischen dem Kahn- und dem Mondbein, dem Skapholunären Band (SL-Band), kommt dabei eine besondere, stabilisierende Rolle zu, da es die Artikulation zwischen dem Unterarm in der Form des Radius und der proximalen Handgelenksreihe ermöglicht.
