Achintya D. Singh et al. Prevalence of endoscopy-related injuries and their impact on clinical practice: a systematic review and meta-analysis

The prevalence of endoscopy-related injuries amongst operators and their impact on clinical practice were investigated in this systematic review and meta-analysis. After selecting 12 studies, including 4563 respondents, the authors found a high prevalence of carpal tunnel syndrome (5.3%), de Quervain’s tenosynovitis (8.5%), and hand numbness (10.1%), as well as neck, back, and thumb pain (>20%). More than 12% of respondents reported missing work because of injuries and/or had reduced their number of procedures per day. Training in ergonomic methods to prevent endoscopyrelated injuries should be prioritized in endoscopic practice.
