Ashok Jhajharia et al. Endoscopic ultrasonography-guided coil embolization and cyanoacrylate injection versus cyanoacrylate injection alone for gastric varices: a randomized comparative study

Combined endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS)-guided coil embolization and cyanoacrylate injection therapy was compared with EUS-guided cyanoacrylate injection alone for the obliteration of gastric varices in this randomized trial involving 50 patients. The combination therapy was superior in lowering the recurrence rate at 12 weeks, which resulted in significantly fewer reinterventions and longer survival. Further large-scale studies are needed to confirm the effectiveness of this EUS-guided combination therapy.
