Author commentary on Alexander Waldthaler et al.
Predicting the duration of endoscopy procedures is a key organizational factor in optimizing scheduling in endoscopy, especially for advanced procedures. Using the Swedish national database of 90 000 ERCP procedures, the authors developed and validated a tool to predict the duration of an ERCP based on 10 expected procedure factors (e. g. intended biliary cannulation or known stricture). Whether this tool can optimize scheduling is worth future exploration.
