Summary
A case of intrasellar abscess in a 31-year-old male, with pituitary insufficiency, visual field and acuity disturbances, is reported. In the pus extracted at surgery E. coli and Staphylococcus haemolyticus were identified. The patient died 20 days after the operation. Necropsy revealed the fibrous capsule of an abscess in the hypophyseal region and putriform tissue at the level of the hypothalamus, with three small tumours one of which proved to be a craniopharyngioma.

Es wird über einen Fall eines intrasellären Abszesses bei einem 31jährigen Manne mit hypophysärer Insuffizienz, Gesichtsfeld- und Visusstörungen berichtet. Im bei der Operation gewonnenen Eiter wurden E. coli und Staphylococcus haemolyticus nachgewiesen. Der Patient starb 20 Tage nach der Operation. Die Obduktion zeigte die fibröse Kapsel eines Abszesses der Hypophysengegend und eitriges Gewebe im Hypothalamus mit drei kleinen Tumoren, von denen sich einer als Kraniopharyngeom erwies.
Résumé
On rapporte le cas d'un abcès intrasellaire chez un homme de 31 ans avec insuffisance pituitaire, troubles de l'acuité et du champ visuels. On identifia de l'entérocoque coli et du stal'intervention, après laquelle, 20 jours plus tard, phylocoque hémolytique dans le pus retiré à le malade décéda. L'autopsie montra la capsule fibreuse d'un abcès de la région hypophysaire et un tissu puriforme au niveau de l'hypothalamus avec trois petites tumeurs dont l'une révéla être un craniopharygiome.
